My smoking’ hot wife, Kay, our bipolar border terrier, Shaka, and I just returned from a 14-day, 3206.3 miles road trip. In 30 years of marriage we’d never taken a long road trip. I can now check that off my bucket list!
Of course, over 14 days we stayed at several small motels and ate at numerous restaurants that allowed dogs, giving us the opportunity to have some really great and too many not-so-great customer experiences.
Interestingly enough, there was ONE very big difference between the great and the not-so-great. A simple, but critical difference.
Watch this week’s video and learn what that one difference is and why YOU should make sure you’re embracing it.
Way to survive a 3,000+ mile road trip with your wife and dog! Eric & I have a small 1,000+ road trip planned with our dog down the Oregon Coast and up through Central Oregon. I’ll let you know what I observe!
Melinda, the Oregon coast is amazing! Way better than the California coast.
Enjoy hearing about your trip and the lessons you learned. You are so good at that! Something like the concept of gratitude is so simple and yet lost on so many. My husband and I are heading out to explore some of the National Parks in Utah ( Zion, Bryce and Arches) the beginning of August. No dog along for the ride, but will try to share observations afterwards (as long as we don’t fry before it’s over), as well as any “uncopyable” impressions. Am grateful to be able to witness this amazing country of ours and always enjoy the diverse folks we meet along the way.
Thanks, Annie. I’ve wanted to visit the Arches, too! That sounds awesome.
My husband and I just returned from an 18 day road trip…Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, South Dakota and Wyoming…over 4800 miles through some of America’s most stunningly beautiful country. Boy do I agree with you there! Everyone should get out and drive this country! It’s BIG and diverse! We also experienced mostly wonderful, grateful attitude all along the way. My husband had to work in Minneapolis for the middle week and “the company” put us up in the Embassy Suites there…very nice with made to order omelets for breakfast and complementary happy hours, etc. We’ve always been impressed with them when we’ve been put up there.
However, I am disappointed to report that, about day 4 there, after hanging the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door for the days previously…because seriously…we don’t need brand new towels of our beds made for us every day…we ran out of toilet paper. First I spoke to the housekeeper who was right outside our room to let her know that, yes, now we could use a clean and more importantly, more toilet paper because we were completely out. She checked her chart and told me she didn’t have my room. So I went 8 floors down and let the front desk know the same information and that I would be out of the room today (while my husband was at work). No problem, they’d get someone in. Five hours late when I returned, they hadn’t been in there yet, so I called down to the front desk with the same information again. No problem, they’d get someone in there to deal with it. I left the room to use the computer room for a couple of hours, came back…still nothing, so I rode the elevator down to the lobby again to let them know (my FOURTH attempt). No one had come by the time my husband got back from work, so he spoke with the front desk about it on the way out the door for dinner. When we returned, STILL no one had been in to give us more toilet paper or clean, so he went back down and they handed him some toilet paper. No cleaning until the next day. I just couldn’t believe it!!! We love everything else about that place, but wouldn’t you think when a guest says WE’RE COMPLETELY OUT OF TOILET PAPER, you’d drop everything and get them some????
PS. We visit the Shilo Inn in Seaside for bar menu on day trips because they have a fire pit and a view of the ocean, but that’s the only reason. We get the exact same vibe from them as you.
Meant to say Minnesota, not Missouri. Oops!
