Super Bowl LIV was a very good game, but many (most?) people actually watch the game for its commercials, right?
HOWEVER, none of these matched up to what Steve believes is the BEST Super Bowl promotion ever. Do you know what it is?
Be sure and COMMENT on this year’s commercials and also what you think of Steve’s pick!
Watch this FIRST:
Then watch this:
That Volvo promo knocks it out of the park. Wow, what sneaky devils. As for 2020, gotta give a shout out to the Doritos commercial featuring Lil Nas and Sam Elliott – especially Elliott’s talented mustache move. #CoolRanchDance. Almost makes up for Lil Nas not winning the grammy. 😉
Pass me the Doritos!
Smaaht!
I think there were more really good commercials this years than in many past years. But I can honestly say they don’t make me want to run out and buy. Maybe it’s just my frame of mind as I’m watching them…more for the entertainment value than what’s being sold.
I think most Super Bowl advertisers struggle to measure success, with the exception of the “our-advertising-budget-is-bigger-than-Canada’s-GDP” companies.
Nicely done. Watch out for the quiet guy!
I disliked more than I liked. Ones I liked were, NFL Next 100, Doritos, Cheetos, Google . Number one dislike was Mt. Dew! Many of them I just didn’t get…silly….stupid!
As you say, Susan, most were just plain bad! NFL Next 100 was very good.
Jeep’s Groundhog Day was clever. I remember the Jeep brand in that one. I think the most memorable commercial was with Jason Momoa, but I don’t remember the brand that it was about. I think sometimes you can get too clever in the ads and the brand is forgotten. You’re thinking of the shock and laughing and you miss the brand. Unless the idea is to get you to go back and rewatch the commercial, in which case then maybe it worked.
Still, like every year, some good, some meh. But I look forward to them anyway.
I agree, Shane. Personally, I think Cheetos has the best chance of a bump in sales!
So here is my question. How did people know about the promotion? Where did the information about it originate? I’m assuming it didn’t start on the Jimmy Kimmel show. How did people know they could tweet during the other commercials to win? Obviously, once it started it would take on a life of its own, but where did it start?
Thanks, Steve. Thoroughly enjoying UnCopyable and have given at last 15 copies away thus far. More to come.
Good questions, Brad! I don’t know how they spread the word or how they cultivated the responses. I don’t even know if the “70% increase” is real. I doubt it.
The main thing for me is the big idea — piggyback on other companies marketing!
And thanks for spreading the word on UNCOPYABLE! We greatly appreciate it.
Very enlightening.
You are a man of few words, Tom.
Ok. That wins in my book as well. Good job Volvo!
Speaking of Volvo, this commercial for Volvo trucks is probably my all-time favorite. Jean Claude Van Damme is amazing. Those trucks are pretty okay too. 😉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7FIvfx5J10
